Here’s why flooring samples look different at home than in-store, and why viewing samples at home is actually one of the smartest steps you can take when planning a flooring update.
Our showroom lighting is designed to be clear and consistent so you can see colour and texture easily. Your home lighting tells a very different story. At home, flooring is influenced by:
- Natural light coming through windows
- Warm or cool light bulbs
- Morning light compared to afternoon or evening light
- Summer sun can highlight undertones you may not have noticed in-store, and even the direction your room faces can make a noticeable difference.
In short: the flooring hasn’t changed the light has.
Your surroundings play a bigger role than you expect
In-store, samples are viewed in a neutral setting. At home, they’re sitting alongside your real life, wall colours, furniture, cabinetry, and curtains.
Those surrounding colours all interact with the flooring, sometimes making it appear warmer, cooler, lighter, or darker than you first expected.
This is exactly why seeing a sample in your own space is so valuable. It shows you how the flooring will truly live with everything else in your home.
